REFLECTIONS

Reflection 1: Monday October 2, 2006

This is my first experience with Wikispaces and I am finding it very complicated to use. I even notice my name disappearing from the list and having to make it all over again. I really hope that my relections get to the professor on time because I am not sure how this web page works. My feelings towards this site is that I am a little nervous and intemidated. I am not sure if what I am doing is right or not. I believe that because I enrolled in CCT300 late I feel a little overwhelm.

Overall, I do want to learn more about this site and strong believe that I will understand it much better as the term progresses. I do like how the navigation is set up because it seems more welcoming. Especially with the idea of posting additional information onto other students pages. I think that it's great because it allows the interaction of people to become more friendly. In the long run this site would benefit me because I would have much more of a variety for certain websites and more knowledge on how to approach a new site. I think once I play around with the site and add more of my input I will have a better understanding.

Reflection 2: Thursday November 2, 2006 (Due November 16)

Question:
2. Think about the following and answer to the best of your ability:
  • How do you choose which postings to contribute or change? What do you look for?
>
* What are your thoughts on adding, editing or re-arranging other people's work?
>
  • Do you regularly check your own postings for alterations? Has anyone changed your work and how have you felt about it?

Reflection:

As I enter wikispaces, the postings that I contribute or change are the ones that catches my interests. Such as what do I enjoy? The things that I enjoy are comedies, romance, cartoons, cultural (Bollywood), etc. I look at things that need to be adjusted in order to make it understandable by the reader. If I know that a reader would not understand the content on a page I would add an image to give them a brief idea. many people learn visually so being as descriptive allows the content to be more understandable. I like to look for things that are creative because I know that as my interesting I like to add a creative aspect to things, even though there are a lot more people that are more creative then me with what I see on these pages.

My thoughts on adding, editing or re-arranging other people's work are both positive and negative. They are postive because I get the impression that we are all working as a group on a major project and everyone has their own ideas to make things much more creative an easier. This is a good thing because everyone can come up with different ideas where one might not have thought of before. The negative aspect of this is that for an individual who has a page might feel as if their work and creativity is being overruled by someone else. The amount of work that they put in can be diminished by someone else. I get worried that the professors will not realize what I have started and which page I did for my wiki assignment. Either than that I believe that it is a good thing with adding things on peoples pages because it brings together not only people but ideas as well.

I do regularly check my postings for alterations as well as come up with different ideas to add on to my page or to other pages that I have previously added on to. The way that I feel about it is that I do not mind people adding or editing my page because it feels as if they are helping me out with an idea or a project. So far I have found it fun and interesting and look forward to adding more things to other pages that I find interesting.

Reflection #3: Friday December 8

As a final reflection for the course, post your thoughts and ideas on:
  • challenges or limitations you experienced while working collaboratively on wiki
  • advantages or benefits from participating in this wiki
  • things about the course you thought worked well and/or suggested improvements

Final Reflection:

Personally, I enjoyed learning about and participating in Wiki. My Challenges was making my wiki page because my ideas were facts and opinions, but I have been going back and redoing it and editing it, so it should be good. Sometime my other problem is that when I go on to start doing work, several hours will pass by and I would not even notice it and loose track of time when I have to do other work. Technically that survey in the lecture saying how we spend 5.7 hours a day on the internet, well that is not alot because wikispaces takes me approximately 2 and half hours. The advantages or benefits from my participation is that I learned alot about other genres and other media. I also learned about what my classmates found interesting and what their hobbies were, for example, Rock Music, Films, anything that was creative that they were interested in they made a page on it. The advantages is that I meet people from my class who had the same interest in what I liked, and how I knew that are the ones who edit my page. From that I realized who was really interested in what I enjoyed and I even met them in my own tutorial section. I learned about things that I never knew before, like the different genre's of things. I learned and benefited from the pages that were posted up, for example Advertising, I found out things that I never knew. This wikispaces, too me, seemed like a coorporate team working together to gather knowledge on things that are popular on the internet and technologies; media genres.

Within this couse what worked well was the tutorial, they helped alot and also gave us time to work on our wiki's because most people had a heavy course load this semester. What also worked well was the fact how everyone participated in coming up with information for our final test, and put up reviews to help others. It really shocked me at how much people do work as a team member, and this wiki helped me realize that, the importance of team work. For improvements, well what I found difficult were the online readings because they hurt my eyes. Then I printed most and realize that they were very helpful. Basically, things were good and it was a different way of learning. Now I know how to apply it and focus on what is really important. Either than that I really hope I come out with a good mark in CCT300 :D not only did I work hard I enjoyed editing and creating wikispaces.
( I had a little scare with wiki being down and not being able to finish this reflection but then it occured to me that ALOT of people were probably on editing things and wiki couldn't handle all that traffic :P)
