OUR FINAL THOUGHTS

Give your final thoughts about CCT300. ex. likes/dislikes/possible improvements.....

To say that the lectures were amusing would be an understatement. I thought the free reign that Prof Jones gave us was a pretty neat idea, although a little more direction in terms of what he wanted from us would have been better. All in all, a great course though, especially the material we got to read.

Highlight of the course: culture jamming/social awareness project.

Loved the final "woo hoo" yelled in the hallway during exam...I share the same reaction. We're finally done!! Thanks to Professor Gelb and Jones for actually giving us informative and entertaining projects to work on. Not many get to say their textbooks were comic books. :)

Finally survived thru this course and so happy that I was able to get all my assignments in on time. This is my first time using wiki for my CCIT courses and I really enjoyed using it. I've encountered many different things that I have not did before and actually motivated my self into discovering this new system. I am really looking foward to my other CCIT courses next year and I will know exactly what to do and what to contribute to this class.

I really enjoyed this class but im happy im finished with it (last exam). I also found the wiki to be very helpful and was amazed at the information it now holds. Good luck to everyone with your exams.

I learned a lot of information concerning different medias in CCT300. I was even introduced to a medium I had not known existed before, graphic novels. Current information about the Internet and World Wide Web was very useful and interesting. The chance to use Wikispaces once again was a fun learning experience.

This was actually my first course I've ever taken at Sheridan, given that I had just transferred from McMaster University. I thoroughly enjoyed the concepts of media that I learned in CCT300. I believe this course has aided in helping me criticize media properly. The wiki project was interesting and a fantastic learning experience.

I think this is one of the better courses/[better profs] taught at U of T simply because we don't have to talk big words and pretend to be something that we're not just to have profs' pay attention to our opinions.

This course is really different from other CCT courses I have taken and I've really enjoyed working on Wikispaces. It was a totally new, different, and exciting learning experience - the dynamic environment provided by Wikispaces makes this course more enjoyable on the whole.

I loved the wiki! The culture jamming project was also a great idea. However, I felt we could have critically analyzed mediums other than the Internet in class a little more. Tutorials could have been greatly improved upon!! Overall, a fun and engaging course :).

CCT300 is one of those courses that comes once in a blue moon which focuses on learning as opposed to education. While I'm personally not a big fan of the wiki stuff, I do believe it further enhances the learning experience; it really shows a person's willingness and inititive to learn, which I, admitedly, show more weakness in than i'd like. I think the guidelines for the wiki assignment could be better integrated with the actual course material which would probably require some sort of tightening of the course's scope. Although I understand Prof. Jone is simply trying to give us a large amount of exposure to different views on media critique and flexibility in choosing our own topics/ideas to write about and persue, I think that it deviates too far from the rigid education confines most people are used to. It's liberating and its a step in the right direction as far as what university classes SHOULD be like, but I guess what I'm trying to say is it's too big a step for most people, myself included.

This was my first semester at Sheridan and the exposure of CCT300 proved to be a unique experience. Zi-Xiao's idea is important and I'm glad someone said it, although had we not been provided with the on-line readings I would fully agree with his/her point.

CCT300 was a refreshing take on university education. Although many of us might have found it difficult to divert from the rigidity we are used in university I think a course such as this aknowledges that we are indivisuals, with opinions and creative ideas! CCT300 was different, in a good way, I think. We were introduced to so many views and we were given the freedom to make up our own minds. The asignments were interesting, the readings (some verrry long) were covered many topics and were informative and i like how current examples, such as John Stewart, were used to support them! Lectures were always interesting too!

CCT300 is one of the courses that I personally enjoyed this semester. The material studied was very interesting. The graphic novel assignment, the culture jamming project, were two of the most enjoyable school project I have ever done! The only thing that concerned me was the breaking of the marks. 25% for the Wikispace is too much, especially for those of us who are new to the whole concept of the confusing Wikispace. Also, I have strived to attend this class and never miss a lecture, or tutorial even if it meant that I stay in school from 9AM to 9PM. Many think that the time was not convenient at all; I still did it, like some other students did. Looking at the lecture hall every week most of the class skipped the lecture, and the tutorial in many cases. I think there should be a minimal percentage for attendance and participation just to be fair to those who try hard to attend. Overall, it’s a fun course thank and I’m glad I got the chance to take it :)

CCT300 I thought was a rather different direction from other CCT courses. I really enjoyed how the course strongly involved the students anf the free approach with ideas. It allows us to really understand and how to appy it to ourselves. I also really enjoyed the culture jamming project because there were so many creative ideas and the group that I was in, was amazing. Now I know why I choose CCIT as a major, because everything is so different that is why it keeps me interested.

Very happy to have taken this course and looking forward to taking Prof. Jones' 333 the next time around. I give props to both Prof. Jones and Prof. Gelb for if for no other reason then the fact that they took such recent events (Google, Youtube, etc.) and implemented them in a fun and enlightening way. For topics of study so new and vague, they did an excellent job. My Wiki contributions and skills will definitely have to be improved for the next time around, as I found it difficult to contribute on a regular basis. The amount of appreciation I've reached for comics and graphic novels, however, is enormous, and that's without a doubt going to stick with me for a long time to come. All in all, a great course, glad to have taken it, and sad (but relieved) its finally over.
